Meet Dr. Michael Powers

Dr. Michael Powers is a board-certified orthodontist and the newest partner at Drs. DeMarco and Tilkin Orthodontics. He is recognized for combining advanced technology and evidence-based treatment with a warm, patient-centered approach, providing individualized orthodontic care for patients of all ages.

A Silver Spring native, Dr. Powers graduated from James Hubert Blake High School before attending the Honors College at the University of Maryland, College Park, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. He completed his dental degree at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, graduating near the top of his class. Dr. Powers then moved to Denver to complete his orthodontic specialty training and earn a Master’s degree at the University of Colorado. He is a member of several prestigious dental honor societies, including the Gorgas Odontological Society and the Gamma Pi Delta Prosthodontic Society.

Dr. Powers is a respected leader in the Maryland dental community, having served as President of the Frederick County Dental Society and currently serving as Director of the Maryland State Society of Orthodontics. He is also active in many professional organizations, including the American Dental Association, the Maryland State Dental Association, the Southern Maryland Dental Society, the American Association of Orthodontists, the Mid-Atlantic Society of Orthodontists, and the American Board of Orthodontics. Dr. Powers was also hand-selected to join the Leadership Academy of the Maryland State Dental Association in 2024.

Prior to joining Drs. DeMarco and Tilkin Orthodontics, Dr. Powers practiced in private orthodontic offices in Frederick and Hagerstown, where he gained extensive experience treating a wide range of orthodontic needs. His background in engineering enhances his analytical approach to treatment planning and his commitment to precision, efficiency, and excellent clinical outcomes.

Dentistry runs in Dr. Powers’ family—his father practiced general dentistry in Greenbelt for over 40 years, his sister is a private-practice orthodontist in Annapolis, and his brother-in-law is an oral surgeon in the Baltimore area. This lifelong exposure to dentistry has shaped Dr. Powers’ collaborative philosophy and deep appreciation for comprehensive, interdisciplinary care.

Dr. Powers enjoys building meaningful relationships with his patients and working closely with families to create healthy, functional, and confident smiles. He believes that a beautiful smile is not only about appearance, but also about proper bite, comfort, and long-term oral health.

Michael lives in Bethesda with his wife, Tiffany, and their son, Finn. Outside of the office, he enjoys spending time with his family, playing pickleball and golf, listening to podcasts and audiobooks, exploring new restaurants, and cheering on DC sports teams. He is also a season ticket holder for Maryland Men’s Basketball.
